Residential Metal Buildings - Construction, Installation Costs, Benefits

Historically metal buildings were largely used for commercial or industrial purposes such as factories or airport hangars.  This is no longer so as increasingly more individuals are opting to build their residences out of metal.  They have discovered the advantages of residential metal buildings.  Metal buildings are cheaper to construct, can be attractively customized and offer the many advantages of being made out of an excellent building material such as steel.

Residential metal buildings have stable structures.  Steel has one of the highest strength to weight ratios.  This means that they are very strong yet relatively light.  Steel weighs less than many other construction materials including wood and is easier to handle.  It is very stable and unlikely to shred, warp, buckle or bend.  This results in a building that is able to withstand the years and outlast other construction material.  Consumers are increasingly taking these factors into consideration when they compare conventional homes with residential metal buildings.

Whilst initially it is an additional cost to have a metal building properly insulated, once installed, these buildings offer higher energy efficiencies than conventional buildings.  When these buildings are lined with insulation packages they are able to efficiently keep the heat out in summer and retain it in winter.

Residential metal buildings are easy to customize.  In fact buyers are able to indicate their preferred design before fabrication is completed.  A wide variety of finishes such as stucco, brick or woodwork may be added to customize the appearance of the building.  The type of roof, number of apertures such as windows and doors can also be indicated as a part of the design.   The versatility of the residential steel building is demonstrated by the fact that doors and windows can be placed in any walls.  Another distinct advantage of this type of building is the ease with which the building can be expanded.  These are considerations which make the residential metal building so attractive to homeowners.

Generally, steel building prices will begin at $5 per square foot for commercial buildings and $7 per square foot for residential buildings.  Residential metal buildings are priced from $16 to $20 per square foot.    This price includes transportation, construction, building materials and the installation of a foundation.  An additional $40 can be placed on the cost if customized finishes such as brick work is added to the steel finish for a customized look.

Residential metal buildings are very durable.  In fact manufacturers give warranty of up to thirty years on these building.  A properly erected metal building is able to withstand quite a bit of wear and tear and in fact its durability is one of its most appealing features.

Residential metal buildings must meet all the requirements for the local zoning laws.  This includes the requirements for drainage and fire assessment.   As it relates to indoor air quality, residential metal buildings deliver far more reliably on this than do conventional structures.  The absence of rotting wood, spores and termites are a positive factor in the contribution to good indoor air quality.

These are just some of the features of residential metal buildings.  You may want to reconsider building a conventional home rather than a residential metal building.  The benefits of a residential metal building are clear for all to see.

Industrial Steel Buildings Are a Cost Savings Alternative

By Jim P Moser
With the high standard of living and the increase in price of raw materials that we face in this modern day, it is not surprising that many industry owners have to be on the look out all the time for cheaper raw products to build their buildings. However, at the same time, they also have to ensure that the quality is not being compromised. As such, the next best alternative to having lower manufacturing cost while at the same time maintaining the high standard is to get industrial steel buildings.
