Metal Storage Buildings - Benefits, Prices, Where To Buy

Steel is an ideal metal with which to construct a building.  Its strength to weight ratio is one of the highest among construction materials.  This in effect means that although steel is very strong to build with, it is also lightweight.   This lends itself to a number of industrial, commercial and residential applications and makes steel a much sought after construction material.  Metal storage buildings made of steel are therefore very attractive options for building whether it is residential or commercial type buildings.

The need for additional storage may arise from a number of reasons.  You may need additional space because of an expansion of business activities, the taking up of a new recreational activity, the growth of your family or simply an increase in the number of items you own.  Investing in a metal storage building is a great way to meet the need for additional space.

Metal storage buildings have several advantages.  A traditional non-metal building incurs greater construction costs because labor and foundation cost more.  Given that traditional buildings take a longer time to go up than a metal building, there is more labor cost incurred.  Additionally, the cost of preparing a foundation for a traditional building is often higher than that for a metal storage building.  The costs for installing metal storage buildings also decrease when a kit with prefabricated parts are utilized.  This is so because there is no loss of material and often the need for additional labor is far less as assembling these metal structures often takes a smaller work force.  Metal storage buildings also allow for easy inner partitioning and higher energy efficiencies.

If a proper selection is made, the quality of a metal storage building is likely to be high.  Steel will not warp or rot of buckle.  Once the proper foundation is laid for the metal storage building, it is likely that it will withstand the elements.  Buildings which are made to resist to resist hurricane force winds will do so.  Metal storage buildings are also treated to resist corrosion.  There are some areas where salt in the air is a corrosive factor, in these instances the buildings can be treated to resist this type of corrosion.

There are a wide variety of metal storage buildings available.  Prices start below $1,000 and go to under $17,000.  The prices of buildings are determined by size, features and the extent to which they are customized with trimmings and sidings.  For instance, a VersaTube steel building with white siding, trimming and stone roof of the dimensions 30' x 32' x 12' retails for $10,195 at the Home Depot Stores.  A similar building with the dimensions of 40' x 60' x 14' sells for $18,995.  These prices include shipping.

Metal storage buildings are a good investment.  They are durable, versatile, expandable, lightweight and easy to install.  They can also be customized to meet the current designs of residences or businesses.  They are very attractive in cost when compared to traditional buildings and savings can be realized in a number of areas.  If you are in the market for additional storage capacity, you should consider a metal storage building.

Commercial Building Steel Qualities

By Jordan Laurent
Compounded mostly of iron and a small carbon content to act as a hardening agent, this alloy forms steel. An increase in carbon content in steel increases its strength and hardness but lowers malleable properties.
